Necessary and sufficient condition on global optimality without convexity and second order differentiability
The main goal of this paper is to give a necessary and sufficient condition of global optimality for unconstrained optimization problems, when the objective function is not necessarily convex. We use Gâteaux differentiability of the objective function and its bidual (the latter is known from convex analysis).
متن کاملThe maximal linear extension theorem in second order arithmetic
We show that the maximal linear extension theorem for well partial orders is equivalent over RCA0 to ATR0. Analogously, the maximal chain theorem for well partial orders is equivalent to ATR0 over RCA0.
متن کاملSecond Order Hadamard Differentiability in Statistical Applications
A formulation of the second-order Hadamard differentiability of (extended) statistical functionals and some related theoretical results are established. These results are applied to derive the limiting distributions of a class of generalized Crame r von Mises type test statistics, which include some proposed new ones for the tests of goodness of fit in the 3-sample problems, the tests in linear...
متن کاملAdiabatic Theorem without a Gap Condition
We prove the adiabatic theorem for quantum evolution without the traditional gap condition. All that this adiabatic theorem needs is a (piecewise) twice differentiable finite dimensional spectral projection. The result implies that the adiabatic theorem holds for the ground state of atoms in quantized radiation field. The general result we prove gives no information on the rate at which the adi...
متن کاملAn Adiabatic Theorem without a Gap Condition
The basic adiabatic theorems of classical and quantum mechanics are overviewed and an adiabatic theorem in quantum mechanics without a gap condition is described. 1 Classical Adiabatic Invariants Consider a (mathematical) pendulum whose period is slowly modulated, for example by shortening the length of the pendulum, fig 1, [1, 18]. Figure 1: An adiabatic pendulum The Hamiltonian describing the...
